Social Spin Foundation

Social Spin Foundation has an innovative approach to supporting those experiencing homelessness.

The mission, said Christy Moore, Founder and Board President, is to offer essential services that foster dignity and improved quality of life for underserved populations. Central to their efforts are free laundering services, which address a fundamental need often overlooked for individuals experiencing homelessness. Through this service, Social Spin Foundation helps maintain personal hygiene and restores a sense of dignity to individuals who lack stable housing.

The foundation also operates a community food pantry; delivers diabetes prevention, education, and on-site testing; provides heat relief; and offers a complimentary barbershop service once a month. These comprehensive services tackle multiple facets of need, reflecting a holistic approach to support.

One of their key initiatives, #WashWithCare, takes place at purpose-driven laundromats in Mesa, AZ, and the mutual aid hub in Phoenix. Each week, participants receive free laundry services, hot meals, and connections to valuable community resources fostering a sense of community and belonging.

The Social Spin Foundation has also leveraged community support to enhance its impact. They received a $100,000 loan and a $40,000 grant from the Metro Phoenix Affordable Housing Collaborative Fund, which underscores the significant role that discretionary funds play in unlocking opportunities for smaller nonprofit organizations.

To continue this impact, ACF awarded a $25,000 discretionary grant to support capacity building for their affordable housing project, The Spin at Portland.

Our customer-driven model proves that laundromats can be vibrant social hubs that celebrate the arts, culture, and community while serving as access points for communities to access care.
